Hi Anthony,

We are having some e-mail issues with a new ISP and firewall. Outside e-mails are not always being delivered or sent. So, I am copying this message here in addition to sending it via e-mail.

Update - my class set of microphones has STILL not arrived . . . they were ordered in July. I am frustrated enough that I may just purchase them on my own and hope that the district will reimburse me when they arrive. My video editing system - that was supposed to be set up by August - also has not arrived.

Consequently, I haven't assigned the screencasts, VoiceThread, or podcasts to my classes yet. I really like the idea of your students critically evaluating the screencasts. I think, once the screencasts exist, that we could create a common "evaluation guide" that both groups could help to author. My students have already created an evaluation protocol for the learners toolbox reviews. It was negotiated among all four of my sections and served as a pretty good measure, though I was generally disappointed by the student products.

I really approached this year with the philosophy that if I always modeled outcomes and products for my students they would be boxed in by that model and their creativity and critical thinking would be stifled. Unfortunately, without the model/exemplar in mind, many of my students were simply lazy. The products ranged from excellent to tremendously poor. Overall, I think that I will have to provide exemplars to my next group if I want to see better products.

It is too bad, but I think this first group is just not going to get the richness of the experience that my next three groups will enjoy. I think they are finding value in the course, but it is limited by time/technology and my evolving planning.
